Izumo Taisha Okinawa Branch Shrine | Furujima, Naha
Izumo Taisha Okinawa Branch Shrine is an officially recognized branch shrine that enshrines the divided spirit (gobunrei) of Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine in Shimane Prefecture.
Like the main shrine, we enshrine Okuninushi no Okami as our principal deity and bestow blessings of enmusubi (the binding of sacred bonds) and many other divine virtues.
Okuninushi no Okami is the deity who completed the creation of the land of Japan, and is widely revered as the god who binds the bonds between people.
In 1970 (Showa 45), to commemorate Okinawa's reversion to Japan and to convey the beautiful spiritual culture of Japan, the divided spirit of Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine in Shimane Prefecture was enshrined and the shrine was established.
Among the many "branch shrines" (bunshi) and "branch temples" (bun'in) of Izumo Taisha across Japan, the Okinawa Branch Shrine is the only one uniquely authorized to bear the title of bunsha, owing to the special historical circumstances of the postwar era.
Enmusubi does not refer solely to romantic love between partners.
It encompasses the binding of all positive connections in life -- work, wealth, health, relationships, and the blessing of children.
The enmusubi governed by the deity of Izumo extends beyond romantic bonds.
It is said to encompass the ties that enable all living things to flourish and prosper together.
Our lives are sustained by countless connections.
The harmonization of each of these bonds, guiding us toward a better path -- this is the true essence of enmusubi.
Prayers for wonderful encounters and the deepening of meaningful bonds throughout your life
Prayers for the health, safety, and harmony of your family
Prayers for the growth of your business and favorable connections in your work
Following the tradition of Izumo Taisha, please worship with "Two Bows, Four Claps, One Bow" (nihai-shihakushu-ichihai).
Step before the shrine, stand straight, and bow deeply twice
Bring your hands together at chest height and clap four times
Finish with one more deep bow
Our shrine offers a variety of omamori (charms) and auspicious items, including those for enmusubi (sacred bonds).
We also have goshuincho (seal books) and otamagushi (sacred offerings). Please visit during your worship.
